Cut Off
LOW BLAMED for historic storm that dumped months worth of rainfall within hours on the parched soil of a small part of tourist destination Valencia, Spain. A what what?
Ok, “cut-off low” is a technical, weather-geek term for a low-pressure area — drawing in air and moisture from surrounding higher-pressure region — isolated between two such high-pressure zones. It’s a recipe for heavy to catastrophic rainfall, the latter especially so in the context of prevalent drought. Persistent dry weather — more so than has been typical of the Mediterranean climate — has become so normalized over recent years that that Sea’s northern coasts, from Spain to Italy to Greece to Turkey, are experiencing desertification. The Sahara Desert of north Africa is leaping over the cut-off ocean (the Mediterranean), extending its reach.
The cut-off low is what organized along the Mediterranean coast, seemingly related to the weather pattern that recently brought rare rainfall and flooding to some areas of the Sahara Desert in Morocco. (See “Wet Desert” story, 30 August 2024.)
Apparently Valencia’s severe-weather warning system failed to issue any timely warning of what was soon to happen. The sky opened up with torrents of rain that the hardened soil could not absorb. Before long, walls of water, with whitecaps consisting of scores of cars, were invading the streets of the city. The water in many areas reached the tops of the first floors of many residences.
Over the next two days, the human death toll climbed toward two hundred, the physical devastation mind-numbing.
The unnamed storm brought an end to an era in that area.
From an astrological perspective, the perennial question is: Is the potential for such an event clearly shown in the relevant charts?
Taken further, is Uranus (unusual conditions), Neptune (flood) or Pluto (destruction) prominent? What about Luna (moisture, air masses) and Mercury (winds)? Jupiter (large-scale)?
The base chart (inner ring below) — the prior Libra solar ingress — strongly indicates heightened events, as in the one-two hurricane punches in the USA, Helene and Milton, with many places permanently altered and to some degree depopulated. The Mercury - Neptune - Jupiter configuration sums it up, along with the emphasis on Air signs. Economic crisis is also dramatically shown: Venus (domicile in Libra) at exact right-angle with Pluto, both in last-degree.
Prime time for economic disruptions promised at some point during Uranus’ transit of Earth sign Taurus (2018 - 2025) is autumn 2024.
The only planet emphasized by angularity at Valencia, however, is Jupiter: Jupiter in Gemini (sign of exile) and stationary during October 2024. This is another reminder that Jupiter can and often does signify too much of an otherwise blessing, amounting to a very unfortunate set of circumstances.
Mercury’s place in the configuration symbolizes not only the strong winds, but also communication issues.
Also, Valencia’s event unfolded within the lunar cycle following the solar eclipse in Libra.
The fourth-quarter lunar phase occurred 24 October, two days after Sun crossed the place of Venus in the ingress chart: activation of Venus’ potential. That potential — this time — includes destruction of value / valuables on an extreme level, as attested by the exact right-angle between last-degree planets Venus and Pluto. Not merely localized, but generalized losses and ongoing hardships are likely, some of it engineered by hidden plutocratic manipulations.
The deluge began five days later around sunrise (outer ring of chart bi-wheel), as Mercury began separating from an exact sextile with Mercury’s place in the base chart, as Mercury drew closer to exact opposition to Uranus. Mars was only two degrees from opposition to Pluto: a forceful and destructive combination of energies — and it ain’t over.
Not nearly.
