Rudy Colludy
(RERUN)
Way back in olden tymes — though not nearly in the Before Time — back on 25 November 2020 (two weeks after a certain contested American presidential election), this observer posted a blog entry entitled, “Rudy’s Fall.” It sketched out the life path and pertinent astrological indications associated with one Rudolph Giuliani, one who — not yet twenty years (a Jupiter - Saturn cycle) before — had been widely called “America’s mayor” in the aftermath of the catastrophic airliners-as-weapons terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001. Those were the very attacks that precipitated twenty years — there’s that interval again — of direct American military intervention in Afghanistan.
Since Rudy has been in the news again — for attempted dodging of service of legal papers on the occasion of his eightieth birthday, and for shilling his personal brand of coffee — the time is appropriate to have another look.
And after that: a brief astrological look at a fresh news story.
RUDY’S FALL
HE’S STILL out there twisting in the wind, or behind the press conference microphone, as the case may be. But like his boss, he’s toast.
What a spectacle it is and how far he’s fallen from his glory days as lame-duck mayor of the Big Apple in the months after 9-11. Back then, he rallied the city to climb out of the wreckage. He was flying high. Awards and honors cascaded upon him.
Much is revealed in the various ways that astrologers bring a person’s birth chart up to date.
One is called progressions, which usually means the method of having each day after birth represent another year of life. (Another method is solar arc progressions.)
Mercury (representing messaging) and the Midheaven (“MC,” which can also designate an emcee or master of ceremonies) had progressed in Rudy Giuliani’s chart to a tight conjunction with natal Luna (connection with the public and its collective mood). Said Luna position is in the theatrical and commanding sign of Leo.
Luna in the sky — and she was visible that outrageously clear morning — as the first attack fell upon the Twin Towers was touching off Rudy’s birth chart: right on natal Saturn and Midheaven.
It was significant also that progressed Luna was in his natal first house, indicating an ability to put himself forward in an hour of great need. It only lasted a few months, until Luna progressed over his Ascendant degree and into the second house of money. By then, the office of mayor had passed on to his successor and he was in a position of having to re-invent himself and find a new income stream.
Giuliani began a campaign to capitalize on his role as high-profile hero (another Leo characteristic), hiring himself out as a supposed consultant. As far as I can tell, it was basically just theatre (yet another Leo venue). But apparently he raked in the cash.
Well, sure: Venus, who has dominion over second-house sign Libra, in his natal chart is in Venus’ other sign, the money sign Taurus. Not just in the sign, but in the very last degree, indicating an attraction to extreme situations in pursuit of money.
Another thing: Under the Hellenistic astrology system, Venus in a daytime chart such as Giuliani’s is considered out-of-sect. That means that there is almost sure to be a definite downside to her blessings, especially if one is susceptible to lust and/or love of luxury.
If he’d cultivated a more cautious character — highly unlikely given his other astrologically-indicated factors — he might well have managed to placate her. Perhaps if he’d made significant donations of his wealth to international aid projects: something that would have fit Venus-in-Taurus-in-the-ninth-house parameters. But again, apparently not. One might say that Venus has taken him down.
Some of the latest public images of Rudy show Venus’ ghastly side: some sort of dark cosmetic runoff coursing down both sides of his face. One risks Venus’ wrath at one’s peril.
This comes hot and heavy after his exposure in the followup “Borat” movie, entertaining a young lady (Venus again) who was purportedly underage in a hotel room, and how he was apparently entertaining himself. How pathetic, considering how earlier in life Venus’ influence had shown up in his advocacy for protection of illegal immigrants: the international factor.
Alas, this guy has become a very bad joke, but that’s fully in keeping with the sign that holds his natal Sun - Uranus conjunction (the same combination in Agent Orange’s natal chart): Gemini, sign of the joker, the fellow who lives (and dies) by his wits.
And he just had to be out in public again, being important — or at least, seen as being important. Being exceptional. Being a Player.
The pull is all there: Sun - Uranus in the tenth house, and Luna and three other planets in Leo. Let’s not leave out Saturn (in Gemini) right up against the Midheaven. That’s a bit of classic astrological lore: the representation of someone who experiences a great rise and great fall. This doesn’t happen with everyone with that one signature: Other factors have to be present to indicate a drive toward the realm of the spectacle. And one must be extremely virtuous to have a chance of avoiding the fall.
But to get back to this pilgrim’s progress . . . Several major milestones marked the years 2000-02: his abortive campaign for the U.S. Senate in 2000, his medical crisis with prostate cancer, and divorce from his wife of sixteen years.
That period featured Saturn moving through Gemini (ringing the bell of natal Gemini) in opposition to Pluto in the sky, a combination indicating harsh conditions and attitudes. (It was rather like 2020, which began with a conjunction of those two planets, but this time with the addition of Jupiter riding shotgun to trigger situations of global reach and historic import. Things like a pandemic and constitutional crises. It’s not just the U.S.!)
A third marriage within this period to a woman with lavish tastes — the Venus factor again — apparently served to separate him from friends whose influence had functioned as “guardrails.” It pushed him toward choices that he would likely have refused in his heyday as prosecutor.
One client was Purdue Pharma, the maker of Oxycontin. Purdue “paid Giuliani and his firm millions to convince the government that the company did nothing wrong when it aggressively marketed the pain pills that have claimed countless lives during the opioid crisis.” (A week ago, a federal judge approved Purdue’s agreement to an $8.3 billion settlement in regard to three criminal charges for its role in creating the crisis.)
By 2007 Giuliani was raking in cash for making speeches, to the tune of “$11.4 million for 124 appearances, as he jetted around the world for $100,000 a speech.” By 2008, however, another presidential campaign was foundering, and he was sliding into irrelevance. He spent years in the wilderness, until his abrupt decision to join the Trump campaign in the fall of 2016.
Fall indeed. Like so many others, he hitched his fortunes to a man he had long despised, a man he had treated as a joke. It couldn’t end well.
According to the now-indicted Steve Bannon, “Rudy was hardcore. He’s like a honey badger. He doesn’t give a fuck.” When someone was needed to defend Trump in the wake of the Access Hollywood tape revelations, Giuliani stood up. He was a key member of the “October 8th coalition,” the group of diehard Trump loyalists during the darkest days leading to Trump’s unlikely win.
Transiting Saturn had moved to the bottom of Giuliani’s birth chart: time to attend to matters closest to home and family. Evidently, he refused the call.
Why? Apparently, it was the hunger for the spotlight, to be a Player again.
From an astrological viewpoint, one might point to natal Sun - Uranus in the tenth house (along with Saturn), as well as the close conjunction of Mars and Pluto —the “all-in” combination — ferociously positioned in early Leo and in the twelfth house: a place that carries the significance of self-undoing.
Giuliani was oblivious.
As reward for his reckless devotion, Giuliani could have had the prestigious job of attorney general. But he was uninterested in the law: He’d been there, done that. The restless, try-everything character of Gemini was in full swing. For him, it was secretary of state or nothing, based on his jet-setting experience. He didn’t get it, and he found himself wandering again.
The way back to Trump’s Oval Office led through Ukraine and the quest to discredit the Mueller investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. By 2018 Giuliani was again indispensable to Trump, but he was cut loose from the law firm that had been paying him $4 - $6 million a year. Ouch. Venus extracting her price again.
In his progressed chart, Venus had reached the first degree of Virgo, with Jupiter having moved to three degrees of Virgo. These two planets together can indicate great blessings, but in Virgo: not so much. The Midheaven had progressed to conjunction with natal Chiron. The translation here is that his public role has revealed and aggravated his wounds.
Hence the fresh photos showing him as if bleeding from his head. The progressed planetary feature of the moment? Why, it’s progressed Sun conjunct natal Jupiter in Leo: an apt symbol for over-the-top spectacle.
INTERMISSION
On Sun-day 19 May 2024, an Iranian state helicopter carrying President Ebrahim Raisi, the foreign minister, governor-general of the province of East Azerbaijan, and a number of others, crashed in a mountainous border region, in foggy conditions. All dead on impact.
The day before, the national meteorological organization issued a warning for hazardous weather: a warning apparently either unheard or discounted. Perhaps all attention was on the ceremonies and politicking that attended the inauguration of the Giz Galasi hydroelectric complex along the borders of Iran and Azerbaijan.
In any case, it all seems well-represented in the chart for the crash event.
The loaded ninth place — Mercury, Uranus, Venus, Jupiter, Sun in Earth sign Taurus — is apt for an occasion of international significance for the country: the official opening of a major earthen structure, further politically cementing together the two nations amid the spiraling turmoil of the nearby Russian colossus. The “larger” symbols confirm the scale of investment and the factor of electric power, while Mercury as planetary lord of the signs on the Ascendant and Midheaven speaks to the travels’ and discussions’ relevance to the event itself and the political ramifications.
It was the day of the annual Sun - Jupiter conjunction, neither body dignified by sign in Taurus. Best not count on everything going dandy when Jupiter is combust: fully enveloped in the solar blaze.
Luna’s close-and-closing opposition to Mars suggests haste and a cocksure attitude in view of the weather and the age of the vehicle. Mars appeared in the eighth place of death, domicile by sign (Aries) but out-of-sect: symbolically primed for disaster. Mars also appeared conjunct the North lunar node, suggesting that the event constituted the spark of a firestorm.
So it goes when bosses heed not weather warnings nor astrological indications.
